John 8:12 Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness but have the light of life.” Verse 12 Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, "I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness but have the light of life". Verse 12 Meaning: Those that He had been teaching were still there and after the interrupting people were gone, Jesus went back to His teaching. Reminding us that we will walk in the light if He is truly in us. Verse 12 Question: Do I have a darkness over my life or do I walk in the light with Jesus in my life? Take Away!!
I need to make sure that my steps are walking in life and the light which is Jesus.

John 8:10-1110 When Jesus had raised Himself up and saw no one but the woman, He said to her, “Woman, where are those accusers of yours? Has no one condemned you?” 11 She said, “No one, Lord.” And Jesus said to her, “Neither do I condemn you; go and sin no more.” Verse 10: When Jesus had raised Himself up and saw no one but the woman, He said to her, "Women, where are those accusers of yours? Has no one condemned you?" Verse 10 Meaning: Jesus gave them time to throw the stone and condemn her. When He stood they were gone and a sinner was standing in front of Him. Those who left knew that they were also sinners or they would have stayed to throw a stone. Verse 10 Question: Do I judge others for their sins when I just have a life of my own that I do need to judge in me? What is Jesus trying to show us? Verse 11a: She said, "No one Lord." Verse 11a Meaning: I wonder how nerve wracking it would be to stand in front of Jesus for a sin like that and have to speak out to Him too. I bet she wanted to just crawl under a rock and hide. Verse 11a Question: Does my life stand for God now? Do I take my sins and confess them and then turn away from them as well? That is the important part, turn away from those things we know are wrong. Verse 11b: And Jesus said to her, "Neither do I condemn you; go and sin no more." Verse 11b Meaning: Jesus did not come to condemn but to forgive and save us. He did tell her to sin no more. So, we know that there are consequences for those things we do, but Jesus does not ever stop loving us and forgiving us. Verse 11b Question: Do I obey the second part of His words? Go and sin no more? Do I allow others to be off judgement and go and sin no more? Take Away!!
I need to make sure that I am not judging others and when they share things going on in their lives that I react in love and work at helping them change the sins into salvation and forgiveness with a new life.
John 8:7-97 So when they continued asking Him, He raised Himself up and said to them, “He who is without sin among you, let him throw a stone at her first.” 8 And again He stooped down and wrote on the ground. 9 Then those who heard it, being convicted by their conscience, went out one by one, beginning with the oldest even to the last. And Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst. Verse 7: So, when they continued asking Him, He raised Himself up and said to them, "He who is without sin among you, let him throw a stone at her first." Verse 7 Meaning: Jesus did not condemn, and did not break the laws or do anything wrong in their eyes. He simply stated that someone who has no sin be the first to cast a stone. He was directing it back to them. Verse 7 Question: Do I judge or do I love others and allow them to trap themselves? Verse 8: And again He stooped down and wrote on the ground. Verse 8 Meaning: I think that some believe that Jesus was writing their sins in the dirt or sins that they would recognize as theirs too. Anyway, whatever He wrote must have been semi-important or they would not have included it twice. Verse 8 Question: Do I know what my sins are so that I will be saddened by them and want to change? Verse 9a: Then those who heard it, being convicted by their conscience, went out one by one, beginning with the oldest even to the last. Verse 9a Meaning: Those that were there to condemn her and trap Jesus left one by one. Verse 9a Question: Would I walk away from my sin and turn away if I was there to be judged? Do I do that now? Verse 9b: And Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst. Verse 9b Meaning: She must have been very afraid of what the 'great Teacher' as they thought of Him, what He was going to do to her now. Verse 9b Question: Am I afraid to come to Jesus? Do I remember that He wants me to confess and come to Him? Take Away!!
I need to stand in Christ and live my life in a way that no one can come and hold that up to me that I have done wrong and need stoned. God gives us a way out of sin. We just have to take it.
John 8:5-6Now Moses, in the law, commanded us that such should be stoned. But what do You say?” 6 This they said, testing Him, that they might have something of which to accuse Him. But Jesus stooped down and wrote on the ground with His finger, as though He did not hear. Verse 5: Now Moses, in the law, commanded us that such should be stoned. But what do You say? Verse 5 Meaning: Once they got Jesus to talk to them, they got right on with the questions to see if they could trip Him up. Adultery was a stoning offence in those days and under the Jewish law that was to be done. Now though Jesus had come and after He rises from the grave we have forgiveness by Jesus and not sacrifices. So, He puts them to a test. Verse 5 Question: Is my attitude toward others in love and forgiveness towards them? When I look at someone who has wronged me can I just love them? Verse 6a: This they said, testing Him, that they might have something of which to accuse Him. Verse 6a Meaning: They really wanted to get Him to do something that will allow them to call Him blasphemer and put Him to death. Verse 6a Question: What do I start out with when I deal with others? Do I ask God or do I just judge the people I see doing wrong? Verse 6b: But Jesus stooped down and wrote on the ground with His finger, as though He did not hear. Verse 6b Meaning: I love this part, as I have heard the thought that maybe Jesus was writing on the ground the sins of those who were condemning her. We do not know what He was writing, but it helped all those people to leave. Verse 6b Question: Can you imagine what it would be like if Jesus started writing our sins on the blackboard? Take Away!!
I need to have a heart of love for those who have wronged or hurt me. I should find love in my heart for others.
John 8:2-4Now early in the morning He came again into the temple, and all the people came to Him; and He sat down and taught them. 3 Then the scribes and Pharisees brought to Him a woman caught in adultery. And when they had set her in the midst, 4 they said to Him, “Teacher, this woman was caught in adultery, in the very act. Verse 2: Now early in the morning He came again into the temple, and all the people came to Him and He sat down and taught them. Verse 2 Meaning: Jesus loved to get up early in the morning. He seems to want to pray and teach before the people had work to do. He would come to the temple and share with the people what they needed to know to find salvation in God. Verse 2 Question: Do I ever get up early in the morning to study His words? Does it matter when my early morning starts? Each of us has a time we can wake earlier and spend time with Jesus. Verse 3: Then the scribes and Pharisees brought to Him a woman caught in adultery. And when they had set her in the midst. Verse 3 Meaning: The scribes and Parisees came to Jesus while He taught at the temple. They were wanting to catch Him on something so that they could get rid of Him. They brought the woman and set her in front of Jesus and quoted her crime. Verse 3 Question: Is there a judgement in my heart when I bring people to Him in prayer? What does my heart feel? Love or hate? Verse 4: they said to Him, "Teacher, this woman was caught in adultery, in the very act. Verse 4 Meaning: They addressed Him as teacher trying to show that they valued His opinion. Spoke out about her as she was right there. Condemning her. Verse 4 Question: What is my heart attitude when I allow myself to bring someone to God. Am I trying to get them in trouble or for them to change and want to live for God? Take Away!!
I need to make sure that my heart attitude is right when I bring others up to God in prayer. I need to do it in love for them.
John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. Verse 16a: For God so loved the world Verse 16a Meaning: God loves the world; he created us and loves us deeply. God does not choose who He will love and who He will not love, He just loves us all in an unconditional way that few humans ever find. His love goes deeper than most parents love for a child. His love is greater still than what we could ever imagine. Verse 16a Question: Is there a way that we can truly understand what God feels toward us? His love is more than our hearts can understand. Verse 16b: that He gave His only begotten Son Verse 16b Meaning: God did the one thing that most of the parents cannot imagine doing. Giving their son to die for God. Jesus did not come just to show us love and teach us good things; he came to die so we do not have to die. We will die physically off the earth as we know it, but we will go home to God when this human body is done. If we have accepted Jesus as the Savior that will give us the ability to come home with Him. Verse 16b Question: What can I do to share more with the people around me that God truly loves them? Verse 16c: that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. Verse 16c Meaning: All we have to do to go to heaven is believe in Jesus as Savior. When we make the commitment for real we will change for the better and desire to be more like Him and love others too. Our lives might change, but it will be because we want them too and not a forceful God. We will desire a new life in Him. Verse 16c Question: Do I make known the love that God has for all people so they can believe in Him and be saved? Does my heart hurt for those who are going the wrong way? Verse 17a: For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world Verse 17a Meaning: Jesus did not come to condemn people in this world, He came to love, teach and save us. Jesus dealt with sin and taught others to live good lives that are loving towards people. This hate is NOT what God wanted. Verse 17a Question: Am I spending time loving those around me? Does my life flow with the love of God and the acceptance for those who I might not love at first sight? Verse 17b but that the world through Him might be saved. Verse 17b Meaning: Jesus wanted to save everyone and bring them home to heaven with Him. We need to learn from Him and love others in His unconditional love. People need to feel loved to want to be saved. Verse 17b Question: What do I do in my life to help bring others to Jesus so that they may be saved and loved safe in His arms? Take Away!!
I need to remember to show love to all the people I meet. To share Jesus with them that is who love is. Because "God is Love".
Proverbs 3:5-6Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; 6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths. Verse 5a: Trust in the Lord with all thine heart. Verse 5a Meaning: This set of verses are quite explained in them, we are supposed to trust in Him with all thine heart. How exactly do we trust God with all our hearts? By spending time in the Word learning to find the things that He shares with us to make sure that we know just how trustworthy He is. We need to give our all and not hold back when we are living for God. He wants our attention so He can teach and encourage us. Verse 5a Question: Do I trust God fully or am I keeping a part of my life back? Am I digging in so that I am learning that I can trust Him? Verse 5b: And lean not on your own understanding: Verse 5b Meaning: We might think that we know what we should do and just go ahead and do what we are thinking, but that might not always be the best for us so we need to not take our own advice that is riddled in a sinful body, but come to and ask God for His mind set and understanding for what we need to do in life. Verse 5b Question: What can I do to rely more on God daily? How can I get His understanding deep in me to make the right choices by coming to Him? Verse 6a: In all your ways acknowledge Him, Verse 6a Meaning: We are supposed to acknowledge God, to listen to what He is teaching us and do what He says. This is a two way relationship. You need to listen and acknowledge Him and you also need to talk to Him about the things in your life. He might know but He waits for us to come to Him. Verse 6a Question: What can I do more in my life that will show that I am acknowledging God and allowing Him to work in my life? Verse 6b: And He shall direct your paths. Verse 6b Meaning: When we come to Him and ask and listen to what He tells us we should be doing then He will direct us and allow us to know what is best in our lives. Like David in our last story, God gives us a way out when the decision that we are making is wrong for us. If we watch His words to us then we will know that it is wrong and when we allow Him to direct us we will ultimately live in His path to our life. Verse 6b Question: Is my life following what God has told me to do? Do I allow Him to lead me through the things in my life so I do what is right? Take Away!!
When we put God first and work to hear and listen to Him and then obey we will find that we are a healthier and happier person than we are living on our own steam. I need to make sure that I am allowing God to direct me in each decision that I make.
~ He Described the Organization Necessary to Accomplish Everything ~This is the fourth focus that David was trying to help Solomon be ready for to accomplish everything. David was good at organizing, he was a great warrior, musician and writer. He did a good job at leading his men during the times he was obeying God. And he was a good administrator too. He made sure that there were Levite men who were trained in the work of the temple so that when Solomon built the temple, he would have men ready to work in and care for the temple, and the people that would be coming to it. The Levites were educators not only priests, but they were also the ones that protected and taught the spiritual part of the nation of Israel. This was something that truly must have blessed Solomon when he got the temple built. They were able to start using the temple as soon as it was ready because David has started the Levites education and training. 1 Chronicles 23:3 Now the Levites were numbered from the age of thirty years and above; and the number of individual males was thirty-eight thousand. ~ He Designed the Architectural Plan for God's Temple ~God did give David the plans for the temple so that it was built to God's desires. When David turned over the plans to Solomon, he said that the Lord had given him understanding for what His desire for His house was. David worked to be ready with everything. He also hired men to be mentors for Solomon; told him to be courageous and obedient. David was good at making sure that Solomon was ready for this. He was ready to be the king of Israel. ~ He Delivered His Farewell Address ~Before David was to be replaced by Solomon, he came to the congregation in Israel. He gave his farewell address. We did not have to say good-bye as we have the scriptures that we can go through and live life with David again. David asked that the people of Israel would come along side Solomon and help him to live for God and be a good king. David was a loving father until he passed. David reminded the people that he would not be taking his wealth with him when he died and was leaving it to the building of the temple. Then he encouraged others to do the same thing. He gave a whole prayer of thanksgiving to God is 1 Chronicles 29:10-20. That is one of the most powerful prayers given. He told God that he willingly gave himself to God through his life around his stupidness. He was an amazing man of God and yet did many great things. We cannot serve a generation except our own, but we can serve it well. ~ Questions ~1. What six things did David prepare as his life ended?
2. What does it mean to disciple someone? 3. Have you ever thought about something you can leave as a legacy that will bring others to Him even when you have left the earth? Thank you for spending time with us during this study. Monday we will start on some miscellaneous verses the old study way and then to our Christmas study on November 22nd through December 25th. We will do Monday - Friday except we will do Christmas Eve on the 24th. So come, join us and comment about this study.
~ He Determined to Leave Something Behind That Would Honor God ~David was thinking about the house of the Lord. He did not get to build it because of his sins. But that his son from Bathsheba; Solomon would be the one that would be allowed to build the temple that would be home to the Lord. David had the ultimate goal of getting the temple built and having it be exceedingly magnificent, famous, and glorious. He was not sure that Solomon would know how to build it, so he prepared for it. 1 Chronicles 22:5, 14 Now David said, “Solomon my son is young and inexperienced, and the house to be built for the Lord must be exceedingly magnificent, famous and glorious throughout all countries. I will now make preparation for it.” So, David made abundant preparations before his death. 14 Indeed I have taken much trouble to prepare for the house of the Lord one hundred thousand talents of gold and one million talents of silver, and bronze and iron beyond measure, for it is so abundant. I have prepared timber and stone also, and you may add to them. When we study this part, we learn that we can plan for the future after we have gone. Teach those who you love to follow God after you are gone. You want to do things in your walk with the Lord and in your daily lives that will impact others when you are gone. Look at the 'Scofield's Reference Bible' C.I. Scofield died in the year of 1921 and yet people have been reading his Bibles even to this day. That was a first study Bible for TA. Now we all have David Jeremiah study Bibles. The classic hymns are also written long before and are still sung today. David wanted the temple to be a legacy that stands to hold God in high esteem. ~ He Discipled His Successor to Carry on God's Work ~The nation of Israel needed a Godly king, so David started building the vision in Solomon's life. He wanted to make sure that Solomon built a temple worthy to be the home of God. (vs 6-11) And that Solomon would have a vision of leading the people of God in the way that God desires. (vs 12-13). In verse 12, David wanted Solomon to acquire wisdom and understanding more than anything else he would learn. David wanted more for Solomon than what he had to go through. He desired his son to be wise and obedient to the Lord. In verse 13 David focused on teaching Solomon to keep the statutes and laws that God gave Moses. that he would hold onto the historic faith that Israel was built on. Also he wanted to see Solomon grow as a man of courage and one that would fight for what he knows is right in the site of the Lord. David did not want Solomon to make the mistakes that he himself had made. He warned his son to: "Not give in to those temptations". ~ He Directed the Leaders to Assist His Son ~Morning ~ Questions ~1. Why did David want to help Solomon by getting the supplies required to make the temple? 2. What were some of the things that God had David teach to Solomon? We are all but done now. It is one more day and we will be off this book. We have learned a lot and the last part where he is teaching Solomon should be known to all of us.
~ Overview ~The preacher named Clarence McCartney was well know as a preacher that taught on the people of the Bible. He was a great biographer of the characters/people of the Bible and wrote many good books about those people in the Bible. He said in one of his books, "summon these men themselves into the pulpit and allow them to preach for you." We have allowed David to do that for us in these sets of lessons. We have the tools that we have learned from David to build upon in our lives. There has been much to learn and grow in during this study. We need to be learning and growing in God daily. The next two days we will find David getting ready for the end of his life. He helps Solomon with the plans and supplies for the temple. We will find six things that David was doing as his life draws to a close. ~ Questions ~1. What does God desire us to do as we study the characters in the Bible? 2. What have you learned from David in this study so far? So much has changed in our lives since the first of this study. We have had a wonderful time to learn and grow in the Lord with the study of David's life. Lets keep it up for the new year of 2024.
