~ Psalm 5:1-3 ~Give ear to my words, O Lord, Consider my meditation. 2 Give heed to the voice of my cry, My King and my God, For to You I will pray. 3 My voice You shall hear in the morning, O Lord; In the morning, I will direct it to You, And I will look up. Verse 1: Give ear to my words, O Lord, Meaning 1: Here David seems to be asking God to not only hear us but really listen to what his desires are. Question 1: Am I praying and looking to the Lord for deliverance and help as my Father? Verse 1b: Consider my meditation. Meaning 1b: Here he is asking God to hear what he is asking and putting out there in prayer to God. When we meditate on the Word of God; He takes the time to truly consider what we have to say. Verse 3: My voice You shall hear in the morning, O Lord, In the morning I will direct it to You and I will look up. And not just little prayers, but a time that we pray directly to God and look up to Him. Question 3: Do I remember to make my prayers count and not just throw things up there? Take Away!!
I need to get really into praying from my heart and not just shooting them up to our God. ~ Psalm 4:6-8 ~There are many who say, “Who will show us any good?” Lord, lift up the light of Your countenance upon us. 7 You have put gladness in my heart, More than in the season that their grain and wine increased. 8 I will both lie down in peace, and sleep; For You alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety. Verse 6: There are many who say, "Who will show us any good?" Meaning 6: Sometimes, we are feeling far away and forgotten and we ask God if we will see any good. I need to live in the way that God wants if I want His protection and peace in my life. ~ The Trinity and Prayer ~Ephesians 2:18 For through Him we both have access by one Spirit to the Father. The holy Trinity is one of the hardest things for people to grasp and hold onto. God is One, showing Himself as three persons, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. It does not bother me, He has proved Himself in my life and it is easy for me to trust and believe in Him and them. Our Christian life is a life of faith, if we did not need faith how would we truly see the mysteries of God. The Bible does not use the world 'trinity' but we see all persons of the trinity throughout the scriptures as you study His word. The one place you see all three persons is in Luke when Jesus was baptized, The Holy Spirit descended from heaven, the Father spoke to Him and Jesus stood in sight of all. Luke 3:21-22 When all the people were baptized, it came to pass that Jesus also was baptized; and while He prayed, the heaven was opened. 22 And the Holy Spirit descended in bodily form like a dove upon Him, and a voice came from heaven which said, “You are My beloved Son; in You I am well pleased.” In Ephesians we end up seeing how the relationship of the Trinity is important to our prayer life. Through, by and to. Our prayers are to be offered "to the Father", He is the one who gives us our salvation and loves us as His children. Our prayers are prayed "through Him {the Son}," He came to earth to fulfill God's plan of salvation through His death and resurrection. And the Holy Spirit, "by one Spirit" He convicts us of our sins and gives us power to serve God and helps in our prayer life. In Romans it says that the Spirit who helps will even make intercessions for us when we do not know what we should pray for but come to God anyway. Ephesians 2:18 For through Him we both have access by one Spirit to the Father. Romans 8:26 Likewise, the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. ~ The Source of Prayer ~Prayer is "to the Father", All of our true prayers begin with us claiming our personal relationship with the Father. When we get to know Him intimately as Father and us His child, we have a connection that cannot be broken. We are His. We know Him as our heavenly Father and He is the one that is our source of prayer. Our Father. God can only be called our Father, if we have accepted Jesus as our savior, being born again spiritually into the family of God. First we are born of flesh and the born again is being born of the Spirit, our inner person takes Jesus gift of salvation. John 3:5-7 Jesus answered, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. 6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7 Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’ It surprises people at times that we are not all already God's children. We are His creation, but not His children. He talks about giving us the opportunity to come to Him and accept salvation to be His children. Paul shares that we can only be saved into God's family by having faith in Jesus. Is shows us how we can find Him real in our lives through salvation. Galatians 3:26 For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. In the Gospels it is written over seventy times that Jesus began His prayer using the word Father. We are privileged to be able to acknowledge that He is our source of prayer and talk to Him as our Father. We are allowed to call God; Father. In Hebrews it says that we can come boldly to the throne of grace. We are allowed to enter the throne of God in our prayers. Amazing!! Hebrews 4:16 Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need. ~ The Course of Prayer ~When we call the Father the source of prayers, then we will call the Son our course, where we make our prayers known. Prayer is "through the Son". We have no access to the Father except through the Son. Paul makes it clear that we have to go through Jesus to the Father. 1 Timothy 25-6 For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus, 6 who gave Himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time, The Bible tells us Jesus is the High Priest, in old times the high priest would take the sacrifice into the temple and get forgiveness for the one who brought the sacrifice. Now we have Jesus who made the ultimate sacrifice on the cross so that we could come to Him and confess our sins. Hebrews 4:14 Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. Jesus is the one that we go through for confession of our sins. It is not the church, a priest, or the Virgin Mary that we go to. They are only people and are not God's way. Jesus is the High Priest now He and He alone can forgive us our sins. Jesus is the course of true prayer. ~ The Force of Prayer ~When we want effective, and powerful prayer we get it "by one Spirit". We see the Spirit is the force behind the prayers. When we allow the Holy Spirit to pray in and through us we have power to pray and get results. Jude shares with us that we need to build up our faith and pray in the Holy Spirit. Jude 20 But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit, Even when we have no idea what to pray the Holy Spirit will pray for us. Have you ever woken at night and had a sense to pray! God puts someone on your mind to pray and you do not know why. You are there thinking about that person and just praying that God would protect and hold them. The Holy Spirit knows what is going on in their lives and what is going on right then He comes to God in our behalf. We come to pray and He will help us. Romans 8:26 Likewise, the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. Our goal in prayer should be accessing the Father through His Spirit. ~ Code Word: Ice ~We see H2O and the three forms it takes, liquid, solid and steam. The same is true with the Trinity, they show themselves in three persons. We have the Father who is our source of prayer; the Son who is our course of prayer; and the Spirit who is the force behind it all. ~ Can You Memorize |
