~ Psalm 18:4-6 ~4 The pangs of death surrounded me, And the floods of ungodliness made me afraid. 5 The sorrows of Sheol surrounded me; The snares of death confronted me. 6 In my distress I called upon the Lord, And cried out to my God; He heard my voice from His temple, And my cry came before Him, even to His ears. 4 The pangs of death surrounded me, And the floods of ungodliness made me afraid. 5 The sorrows of Sheol surrounded me; The snares of death confronted me. Meaning 4-5: David was crying out to God again, telling Him all that he was feeling. It is good to call out and talk to God about all things. Question 4-5: Do I let out the emotion that I have to God so that I do not hold it in and end up taking it out on a person in my life? 6 In my distress I called upon the Lord And cried out to my God; He heard my voice from His temple, and my cry came before Him, even to His ears. Meaning 6: David at least knew that God would hear his calling out and that God did not ignore Him. When we cry out and talk to God, He hears us and cares and listens. Question 6: Do I know in my heart that God hears me? Is my attitude right with Him when I call out? Take Away!!
I need to call out and talk to God more. To know that He is there listening. ~ Psalm 18:1-3 ~1 I will love You, O Lord, my strength. 2 The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; My God, my strength, in whom I will trust; My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. 3 I will call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised; So shall I be saved from my enemies. 1 I will love You, O Lord, my strength. Meaning 1: This is a our amazing prayer that all of us should start our prayers with this verse knowing it by heart. It should be a hearts prayer. Question 1: Do I love the Lord and know that He is my strength in life? 2 The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; My God, my strength, in whom I will trust; My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. Meaning 2: Another great verse for praying, David shows us how to honor God in prayers, He makes sure that God knows that David understands a lot of what He does for us. God is in control Question 2: Does my prayer time honor God is such an amazing way? 3 I will call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised; So shall I be saved from my enemies. Meaning 3: This verse reminds us of what we need to do. We need to call on the Lord and that God is worthy of our praise, and when we hold onto Him. Then God will watch over that. Question 3: Do I spend that time praising God so my heart shows Him the praise? Take Away!!
I need to spend time in praise of God even when I do not have anything to ask.
~ Psalm 17:13-15 ~13 Arise, O Lord, confront him, cast him down; Deliver my life from the wicked with Your sword, 14 With Your hand from men, O Lord, from men of the world who have their portion in this life, and whose belly You fill with Your hidden treasure. They are satisfied with children and leave the rest of their possession for their babes. 15 As for me, I will see Your face in righteousness. I shall be satisfied when I awake in Your likeness. 13 Arise, O Lord, confront him, cast him down; Deliver my life from the wicked with Your sword, Meaning 13: David was always having someone after him to do him harm. He called out to have them taken out by the Lord. Question 13: Do I ask God to take out my issues or do I try to handle things myself? 14 With Your hand from men, O Lord, from men of the world who have their portion in this life, and whose belly You fill with Your hidden treasure. They are satisfied with children and leave the rest of their possession for their babes. Meaning 14: Those that are not with God get their portion of this life as they live now. Not going home to the Lord they get this life and then a life they will not love. We get this life when we know the Lord and then the next life which will be greater by far. Question 14: Do I ever stop to think that this life is a life that is worse than what is coming? What do I think of the life we have coming later when we know Jesus as our Savior? 15 As for me, I will see Your face in righteousness. I shall be satisfied when I awake in Your likeness. Meaning 15: David knew that for Him, one day he would see God and spend eternity with Him. In a great place in Heaven and would be satisfied with his life. Question 15: Do I focus on the good that my life will be when I go to heaven so that I am excited about the next chapter in life? Take Away!!
We need to focus on what is coming and get as many people as we can in Heaven. ~ Psalm 17:6-7 ~6 I have called upon You, for You will hear me, O God; Incline Your ear to me, and hear my speech. 7 Show Your marvelous lovingkindness by Your right hand, O You who save those who trust in You From those who rise up against them. 6 I have called upon You, for You will hear me, O God; Incline Your ear to me, and hear my speech. Meaning 6: David is asking God to hear him, and confessing that he know that God does hear him, he asks that He would incline His ear to him. David just wanted to make sure that he had God's attention. Question 6: Do we sometimes cry out to God knowing He hears us and also not believing it at the same time? 7 Show Your marvelous lovingkindness by Your right hand, O You who save those who trust in You From those who rise up against them. Meaning 7: Once again David is asking for God to take control of the things against him and knowing that he is trusting God and that God will be there to help him when he needs it. David trusted in God in ways few ever do. Question 7: Do we believe that God is here and watching over us? Do we call out to Him and ask for the things we know He wants to do for us? Take Away!!
I need to spend more time in prayer with God and getting to know Him better each day. ~ Psalm 17:8-9 ~8 Keep me as the apple of Your eye; Hide me under the shadow of Your wings, 9 From the wicked who oppress me, From my deadly enemies who surround me. 8 Keep me as the apple of Your eye; Hide me under the shadow of Your wings, Meaning 8: David is calling out for God to keep thinking of him as a man after God's own heart even though he is sinning and doing wrong things all the time too. He does always turn his life back to praise God and do what is right. He wants to be hidden in Gods protection that he does not have to go through separation of God. Question 8: Do I come back to God and confess my sins and really mean it when I do wrong? Is my life a constant with God as Lord and Savior? 9 From the wicked who oppress me, From my deadly enemies who surround me. Meaning 9: David did have a lot of people upset with him in his lifetime, there are always people out there that want to discredit us and when we do something wrong they surround and try to make us not go back to God. Question 9: Do I allow others to surround me and get me to do things that I would not normally do? Am I allowing the wicked and deadly to take my focus off of the King of kings? Take Away!!!
I need to be sure that my steps are taking in Christ. Psalm 17:10-1210 They have closed up their fat hearts; With their mouths they speak proudly. 11 They have now surrounded us in our steps; They have set their eyes, crouching down to the earth, 12 As a lion is eager to tear his prey, And like a young lion lurking in secret places. 10 They have closed up their fat hearts; With their mouths they speak proudly. Meaning 10: People who have turned away from the Lord, they are working at the things that will mess up their lives. Pride and gluttony with more than food. Question 10: Do I make sure that I have an open heart to God and speak humbly and walk upright? 11 They have now surrounded us in our steps; They have set their eyes, crouching down to the earth, Meaning 11: The evil people are out there surrounding us and waiting to be able to attack us in different ways. They want to find something to use to get us. Question 11: Do I pray to have God surround me and protect me from those who want to do evil with me? 12 As a lion is eager to tear his prey, And like a young lion lurking in secret places. Meaning 12: They are wanting to find us and take us apart. Those who have evil hearts want to see us fall on our faces. Question 12: Do I watch for those who want to hurt us? Take Away!!
I need to rest on God and make sure that I am living His love to all people. ~ Psalm 17:3-5 ~3 You have tested my heart; You have visited me in the night; You have tried me and have found nothing; I have purposed that my mouth shall not transgress. 4 Concerning the works of men, By the word of Your lips, I have kept away from the paths of the destroyer. 5 Uphold my steps in Your paths, That my footsteps may not slip. 3 You have tested my heart; You have visited me in the night; You have tried me and have found nothing; I have purposed that my mouth shall not transgress. Meaning 3: David realizes that God has tested him through all that he is going through. It was to see what he would do. God had come in the night and tried him. David said that in that testing and found him doing the right thing. David made sure his words were in the good too. He was tried and true. Question 3: Do I spend my life doing what I know pleases God so that when I am tested that I am seen as good? 4 Concerning the works of men, By the word of Your lips, I have kept away from the paths of the destroyer. Meaning 4: David had watched his step most of the time to be a king and person that was a man after God's own heart. He kept away from sin that would destroy him at this time. Question 4: Do I stay away from sin so that others see me as a good person? Do I stand in God's will so He sees me as a good person? 5 Uphold my steps in Your paths, That my footsteps may not slip. Meaning 5: David asked God that He would uphold him and keep him on God's path in his walk. That he would not slip away from God and instead be a positive man of God. Question 5: Do we stand in God's view and do the right things? Take Away!!
We need to live a life that is far from the sin that so easily besets us when we are on our own. We need to stand with God in all things. ~ Psalm 17:1-2 ~1 Hear a just cause, O Lord, Attend to my cry; Give ear to my prayer which is not from deceitful lips. 2 Let my vindication come from Your presence; Let Your eyes look on the things that are upright. 1 Hear a just cause, O Lord, Attend to my cry; Give ear to my prayer which is not from deceitful lips. Meaning 1: David was saying that he was crying out to God with the truth and needed God's help. Question 1: How many times do we cry out to God and try to lie to Him about what we need? Do we actually think that we can lie to God? 2 Let my vindication come from Your presence; Let Your eyes look on the things that are upright. Meaning 2: David wanted God to see that he was upright and needed God to vindicate what was being done to him at that time. Question 2: Do I allow God to give the ones who are wrong against me, the punishment and not try to do it myself? Take Away!!
We need to look to God for the things going on to be taken care of. We need to allow God to work He is much better than we are. ~ Psalm 16:9-11 ~9 Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoices; My flesh also will rest in hope. 10 For You will not leave my soul in Sheol, Nor will You allow Your Holy One to see corruption. 11 You will show me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore. 9 Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoices; My flesh also will rest in hope. Meaning 9: When we are focused on Jesus and living for Him we have a glad heart and can rejoice in Him. Even our body feels better when we are close to Him. Question 9: Do I spend enough time focused on Him and living the life He desires for me? 10 For You will not leave my soul in Sheol, Nor will You allow Your Holy One to see corruption. Meaning 10: When we have received Jesus our soul will always be with God and God will see us as pure through the blood of Jesus. Question 10: Do I have Jesus, yes? Am I living my best life with Him in my heart? 11 You will show me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore. Meaning 11: God will show us the path of life, a path that will bring us to Him in the future, He gives us pleasures that we will not fathom when we go home to heaven. Question 11: Do I live with His presence around me? Take Away!!
I need to be sure that what I do compliments God's desires and that we allow Him to be with me. I can push Him away or stand in Him it is my choice. |
