It is a crazy time, our weather has been so weird this year and covid kept us in last year. Mama has been doing a lot of knitting and things while it was too cold to sew. She learned to knit and is making sweaters already. Nana says she is doing better than she does and she has knitted for years. We have spent a lot of time in our room playing with our bears and things. We have a good set of legos that we have been building things with too. Easter is early this year, the 4th of April. Zahara and I have signed up for the deluxe Easter basket set this year. So we cannot wait to see what that means. Talaith signed up for it too, she is new here so she thought it would be fun. Easter is great around here, we get one big human sized basket with candy and things in it, then we sign up for what we want extra. Most of the girls just do not sign up and so they get candy out of the basket. There are; "Deluxe Easter", "Super Easter", and "Basic Easter" sign ups. We encourage the visitors and new girls so sign up for deluxe. Some of the girls have so much stuff they do not want anything at Easter extra to take care of. LOL!! They are happy with the pumpkin seeds and candy that is in the big basket. It is funny to think some people want nothing in their basket for them, but I guess you might out grow the need for something new when you have a lot. We are having so much fun deciding what might be in the Deluxe this year. Hmmm .. .. .. There is not much else going on here to report on today. Mama and Nana got a huge chunk of the living room cleared out and vacuumed today. Tomorrow is another big set of it. Mama is in a vacuum mood right now so they are doing their best to get things together and get it done. Mama needs to find her Christmas fabric and get some of what she has in here taken out there. It is in the shed somewhere. The snow is almost gone out there so as soon as it is gone she is going to take a non-rainy day and organize more out there. We have so much out there and it needs fixed up it is all on the floor and not on the shelves. That is about all we have to update, as soon as the rain clears out some we will head for some fun outdoors. It is just too wet for anything fun. Have a great Day!!
Asia!!Bangladesh!!Compassion-assisted children experience these realities daily. But at the Compassion center, there is hope. Bangladesh speaks Bengali and has a population of over 162 million people. Issue: One of the biggest challenges in Bangladesh is food scarcity. Nearly 33% of children under the age of 5 are underweight — among the highest rates of malnutrition in the world. And schools in Bangladesh do not serve food. Response: At the centers, children receive meals five days a week. These meals are often their main source of nutrition. They also get fruit and milk once a week. Lunches usually include rice and lentils with vegetables, fish, eggs, meat or potatoes. Indonesia!!In this tropical paradise, however, many people struggle with poor nutrition, and secondary-school attendance is low. Compassion-assisted children experience these realities daily. But at the Compassion center, there is hope. Indonesia speaks Indonesian and has a population of over 267 million people. Issue: Most children in Indonesia complete primary school, though the quality of education is not always high. The attendance rate drops when children reach secondary school. Just 76% of boys and 78% of girls in Indonesia attend secondary school. Response: Education is a priority at Compassion centers. Tutoring, access to textbooks, and other educational opportunities encourage children to stay in school. And as children get older, they can explore vocational opportunities to help them become financially self-sufficient as adults. Philippines!!The Philippines speak Filipino and has a population of over 109 million people. Issue: Children in the Philippines are abused and exploited at an alarming rate. It’s hard to know exactly how many children experience violence, but we do know that millions are in need of protection. Response: Each registered child is known by a Compassion staff member who has been trained to identify warning signs of abuse. If a child is at risk, Compassion intervenes quickly to ensure that each child knows she is known, loved and protected. Sri Lanka!!Compassion-assisted children experience these realities daily. But at the Compassion center, there is hope. Sri Lanka speaks Sinhala and has a population of over 22 million people. Issue: Though only 7% of Sri Lankans live below the poverty line, people in remote areas often face many more challenges than those in urban communities. These areas often lack access to good nutrition and improved water and sanitation despite high rates of coverage nationwide. Response: Compassion centers are located in communities with the greatest need — even those in remote and hard-to-reach areas. Where basic services are often lacking, Compassion intervenes with educational opportunities, nutritional support and lessons about good hygiene and sanitation practices. Thailand!!Compassion-assisted children witness these realities daily. But at the Compassion center, there is hope. Thailand speaks Thai and has a population of over 68 million people. Issue: Poverty in Thailand is decreasing, and unemployment is less than 1%. But pockets of poverty still exist, particularly along the borders, where many children lack citizenship and have limited access to education and health care.
Response: Compassion recognizes children’s unique needs and works to meet them. For those without Thai citizenship, our holistic approach provides not only financial, material, medical and educational support but also legal support through our partnership with International Justice Mission. |
